Typographic Anthropology

The concept for my typography book is on contrasting typography. I chose to focus on
two different contrasting types; one is old and new type. I called these sections Deterioration
and Restoration. I also was intrigued by expressive type and strict type. I named the second
set Expressive and Regulation. My end goal was to make a cohesive structure and grid throughout my book. I wanted to rely more on the photography of the typography rather
than text.

Bear Deluxe Magazine | Drone World

I designed two spreads for the upcoming Bear Deluxe Magazine. Ryan Brown was my client that I worked with; he gave me the text from the feature story Drone World by Paul Sheprow. The end goal was to find a concept by interpreting the story in a unique way, and designing the art to express my concept. After reading the article I got inspired with a concept for my spreads. When designing my layout, I was focusing on pushing my concept enough to make sure my illustrations and text were dynamic.

Shopsins Menu

The concept of this menu was to recreate the 900 item Shopsins menu in a more appealing way. The key objectives were to organize the information, convey the menu to represent Shopsins personality, and make the experience of the menu to be interactive. My goal was to format the menu to fit the Portland area.

TEDx Corvallis

The end goal for this project was to come up with a profile and schedule piece that could be unified in some way with my group’s individual work. We designed branding for a TEDx conference here in Corvallis. We each had to design our own profile and schedule, but also had to create unifying collateral pieces. Our group relied on having similar type for headings, and used the color of an orange yellow. We then used that color either as a main part of our individual profile or as an accent. This way our individual profiles could be unique yet still can relate to one another.

Clock

From this project I learned how to take a complex idea and communicate it through text. I played with negative space to communicate an image to help get my idea across better. My concept was how I interrupt time. At that time my day would start at 9 am, and from that point on the day was busy and chaotic. Since I stayed up late to either finish projects or to relax, I considered myself a night owl. Therefore my text made a crescent moon to display my concept.

New Ventures

This was a collaborative project; our concept was about combing the old and new and
having them intersect with one another. We thought we could show this with collaging together materials and overlapping. Our goal was to design a poster series of how we interpreted the conference.

WPA Poster Series

The theme of my poster is based on the issue that the poverty in U.S. communities is affecting school education; children are not having the same experience, materials, and tools to learn
as much as wealthier schools. The technique I will use for my poster series will be a nod to
Herbert Matter.

Self Portrait

This piece is a self-portrait of hand cut paper using the gray scale. The individual pieces of paper are images of roses to reflect who I am. Within this piece I numbered each section on the grayscale, cut each piece out, and placed in the correct spot.

Ridge Rider | Mobile App

The end goal of this project was to design a mobile app that would solve a problem. Currently there is no existing mobile app that is designed for snow sport centric tracking of goals and personal experiences (ie-reviews). My group and I designed a clean, bright, and in depth interface for the user. (There are more screens in this app which are not shown above.)

Living With Type

This pillow holds an intriguing design pattern made out of dissecting parts from the anatomy
of typography. After designing the pattern I then had it produced to be printed on a pillow.
